According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter - the world's only totally reliable guide to the future - the world will end on a Saturday。 Next Saturday, in fact。 Just after tea。。。

People have been predicting the end of the world almost from its very beginning, so it’s only natural to be sceptical when a new date is set for Judgement Day。 This time though, the armies of Good and Evil really do appear to be massing。 The four Bikers of the Apocalypse are hitting the road。 But both the angels and demons – well, one fast-living demon and a somewhat fussy angel – would quite like the Rapture not to happen。

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist…

the series (the version of good omens which i consumed first) was very accurate to the book, 13/10 for that。 otherwise, the book is hilarious, irreverent, quirky, and made me laugh out loud at parts。 as far as 'religious' fiction goes, i view it as not particularly more scandalous than dante's inferno。 the series (the version of good omens which i consumed first) was very accurate to the book, 13/10 for that。 otherwise, the book is hilarious, irreverent, quirky, and made me laugh out loud at parts。 as far as 'religious' fiction goes, i view it as not particularly more scandalous than dante's inferno。 。。。more

!!!! Delightful! Hilarious! So lovely to get that can’t-put-it-down-the-story’s-too-good feeling again! Very tongue in cheek & playful & definitely a wild, quirky ride! A much welcome reprieve from heavy grad school theory :)

Good Omens takes the line between hilarity and sacrilege and jumps it like a jump rope。 Just the sort of ridiculous irreverence I am always down for! My only complaint is that Aziraphale & Crowley's page-time tapered off towards the middle portion of the book; they are clearly the stars of the whole shebang, and the middle felt a bit slow without them。 Good Omens takes the line between hilarity and sacrilege and jumps it like a jump rope。 Just the sort of ridiculous irreverence I am always down for! After reading a few of Gaiman’s books (American Gods, Anansi Boys) I decided to give this one a try。 I had seen advertisements for the show, so I figured I could read it and then watch it。 Well, I hope the show is better。 I just couldn’t get into this book。 I finished it, but it definitely isn’t one of my favorites。 That’s disappointing, because I thoroughly enjoyed the others。

I had such high expectations going into this book which may be the reason why I was so disappointed。 The writing just isn't my style, the plot is choppy which is why I couldn't connect with any of the characters and I couldn't be bothered caring about the story。 I can see that this story works much better as a show (I'll probably watch it sooner or later) but as a book。。。just no。 Some parts were funny (they got that breath-air-out-of-my-nose kind of chuckle) but most of the jokes fell flat with I had such high expectations going into this book which may be the reason why I was so disappointed。 The writing just isn't my style, the plot is choppy which is why I couldn't connect with any of the characters and I couldn't be bothered caring about the story。 I can see that this story works much better as a show (I'll probably watch it sooner or later) but as a book。。。just no。 Some parts were funny (they got that breath-air-out-of-my-nose kind of chuckle) but most of the jokes fell flat with me。 。。。more

I bought this book because I loved the movie。 I was struggling with reading the book, just was having a hard time keeping everything straight with the jumping around。 I decide to get the audible version and linked it with my kindle。 Once I linked the two it became much more enjoyable to follow along and keep track of everyone/ everything。 Narrator was excellent。

Terry Pratchett is a firm favourite author of mine。 I love the discworld and cannot wait to continue journeying through the series。 Neil Gaiman is another firm favourite。 He is a literary superstar! Fast forward to this month, when I reread it, and enjoyed it just as much – If not more! In the beginning there was Aziraphale (an angel; originally a guardian of the gates of Eden) and Crowley (a demon; originally the serpent who tempted Eve)。 Having been enemies for thousands of years, they were “almost friends” long before the apocalypse began。Although the book is a comedy about the birth of the son of Satan, and the coming of the End Times, it is also a love story of epic proportions。 Firstly, that of Aziraphale and Crowley’s asexual love for one another (Or perhaps sexual, who am I to decide?)。 Secondly, that of Adam and the “Them,” and their love for one another as friends。 Finally, the attraction of Witchfinder Private Newton Pulsifer to the occultist, Anathema Device。 Interestingly, Anathema Device is one of several characters in Good Omens named after  the original Pendle witches, as well as Agnes Nutter, a prophet burned at the stake。 The Pendle Witches are a never ending source of curiosity for me。Good Omens also parodies Matthew Hopkins’ title of “Witchfinder General。” Matthew Hopkins (Approx。 1620-1647) was indeed a witchfinder by trade, and though he claimed to hold the office of Witchfinder General, that title was never bestowed by Parliament。 Finally, I found the modern versions of the Four Horsemen (although War is a woman) of the Apocalypse to be artfully depicted。 War spreads conflict as a war correspondent; Famine promotes starvation and deprivation as an entrepreneur and dietician; Pollution ensures mass environmental disaster through a wide variety of jobs (Having worked at Chernobyl just before the plant went into meltdown), and; Death – being the leader of the four – reaps the souls of the dead, in the style of the traditional grim reaper。 Here's to many more rereads to come over the years! 。。。more

I finally got around to reading Good Omens。 Neil Gaiman described it as being one of the most abused books on the planet, in that corners of pages are invariably turned down, the book tends to either be dropped in a puddle or splattered with tea, and, in one instance, completely disincorporated itself so that it now resides, binding-less, in a ziplock bag。 All in all, that is not a bad comparison to the ideas inside the book。 It is very, vey funny, yet includes some pretty deep thinking about th I finally got around to reading Good Omens。 Neil Gaiman described it as being one of the most abused books on the planet, in that corners of pages are invariably turned down, the book tends to either be dropped in a puddle or splattered with tea, and, in one instance, completely disincorporated itself so that it now resides, binding-less, in a ziplock bag。 All in all, that is not a bad comparison to the ideas inside the book。 It is very, vey funny, yet includes some pretty deep thinking about the nature of good and evil, religion, and the "ineffable" track along which mankind may or may not be proceeding。 Many people have tried to compare this book to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but I don't think the comparison is a fair one。 While both books are fantasies and laugh-out-loud funny in many places, Douglas Adams has the sizzle and Pratchett and Gaiman have the steak。 HGG is pretty much a series of zingers strung together, which is not very surprising knowing that Adams was writing the radio play upon which the book is based while sitting in the studio with the actors who were performing the play。 Gaiman and Pratchett, on the other hand, took their time writing Good Omens, sharing ideas through phone calls and mailing computer disks back and forth。 More time gave them an opportunity to both delve deeply into their subject and polish it up to a very fine shine。 I enjoyed this book very much and intend to read many more books by both these authors 。。。more

This was a dramatised version of Good Omens and was more like a radio play。 This worked well and it seemed to suit the story。

This one wasn’t for me…this one has been on my “to read” list for years and for some reason I kept putting it off - when it I saw it was available on Libby I was excited to finally get to it。 I’m clearly in the minority here, but I didn’t find this nearly as clever or just humorous as all the good reviews implied。 I almost DNF several times but slogged through hoping I would “get it”…I didn’t。

4。5 stars。 One of the funniest (and most British) books I've read。 Several times I burst out laughing, an unheard of phenomenon, as I typically have the demeanour of a rock when I read。 This was my introduction to both Pratchett and Gaiman。 I hope my library has their backlist available, because I will be dropping by soon。 4。5 stars。 One of the funniest (and most British) books I've read。 Several times I burst out laughing, an unheard of phenomenon, as I typically have the demeanour of a rock when I read。 This was my introduction to both Pratchett and Gaiman。 I hope my library has their backlist available, because I will be dropping by soon。 。。。more

I tried, I really tried。 This just isn’t for me。 I didn’t laugh once, I found the writing style confusing and strange。 I didn’t like the narrative at all。 I watched the Amazon series and loved it。 This was recommended to me by so many people and I just couldn’t get into it。 Not the worst thing I’ve read, I just don’t get the hype。
